Yahoo has developed software last year and used to screen incoming e-mails from customers on specific information. This was a request by US intelligence NSA and FBI today draw specialists told Reuters.

Naamloos-3512.pngMillions of emails from Yahoo users are scanned using this program. It is still unclear when the mails are scanned exactly nor whether the security Yahoo asked to check on certain words or symbols.

It is the first time that a provider has agreed with spying on behalf of the government. All the messages that were sent were checked account holders, as opposed to the e-mails that had been stored already.

The decision by CEO Marissa Mayer would have ensured internally much unrest. It would also be the reason that Yahoo's security expert has terminated his job. He now works on Facebook. Yahoo does not deny but would not give any explanation about the software.

It is not clear whether more companies participated in the scan request of the US government.

The company made last month announced that the personal information of 500 million users in 2014 were stolen in a cyber attack. The victims have been informed by Yahoo and their accounts are blocked.
