Nijmegen Labour councilor Tankir does not feel supported and get on

The Nijmegen Labour councilor Turgay Tankir (Economy, Work and Income) has with immediate effect resigned his portfolio. Turgay made this decision because he claims not feel more supported by his own faction in the city council.

In a written statement Tankir says there is no question of a conflict within the college.However, he disagrees with his own group on its policy in the field of work and income.

The PvdA felt robbed this spring by sudden cuts in special assistance. After the summer proved deficits welfare is much higher than was predicted in advance. Tankir touched on this in conflict with his own group.

Tankir was regarded as a role model. He was born in 1957 in the Turkish city of Samsun and returned to his eighteenth to the Netherlands where he worked in a meat plant in Deventer. He became active in the Labour Party which he was councilor from 1986 to 1990 in Deventer. His great example was Joop den Uyl. Six and a half years ago was to be Tankir requested by the Nijmegen Labour councilor.

The Labour Party said in a statement on twitter to regret the departure of Tankir and is considering the situation. Tankirs portfolio is provisionally detected by GroenLinks alderman Bert Frings. Tankir is unwilling to an oral explanation.
