Jorritsma (VVD): Police back to Interior

The control of and responsibility for the police can be removed at a better next cabinet at the Ministry of Security and Justice.

The police should come under the Interior Ministry again. That said the newly crowned leader of the VVD in the Senate, Annemarie Jorritsma, at a party meeting in Wageningen.

Under the Ministry of Security and Justice is now attacking the police, the prosecution, the judges, the probation service and the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism (NCTb).

The reason for the shift Jorritsma called the better distribution of power and responsibilities.The position of Jorritsma is remarkable since moved among VVD government responsibility for the police just to Security and Justice.

But in the House seems to be emerging majority support for a shift back.

Too big

So left ruling party PvdA know previously that the Ministry of Security and Justice gradually becomes too great. Dutch MP Recourt said in September that should be the question on the table at the next cabinet or the police should not go back to the Interior.

Recourt questioned in connection with the events surrounding the photograph of Volkert van der Graaf whether there is sufficient political sense is at the top of the ministry and of the OM. This week the commission Oosting presented a report on what went wrong at theTeevendeal. The committee voiced include strong criticism of the culture at the ministry.
