Long prison sentences for honour killings murder of father and son

A man of 26 is sentenced to nineteen years in prison for a murder along the N61 at the Zeeland village of IJzendijke in 2013. His 52-year-old father got fifteen years imprisonment. The motive of the murder is honour killings.

The victim was a friend of the daughter in the family from Dordrecht. Her father and brother were dead set against the relationship. According to Omroep Zeeland is the family of Kurdish origin, while the victim is a Turkish background. The woman would in addition all are married off to her cousin.

The son and the father decided to kill the victim. Because the son pulled the trigger, he is more heavily punished.

' Chilly winding-up ' the right talks about "a chilly winding-up in broad daylight on open roads with big consequences for next-of-kin and impact on society". The defendants have no respect for the life of the victim and that they are heavily charged, says the Court.

The public prosecutor had against both suspects nineteen years in prison.
