More and more children placed under guardianship

The number of children under guardianship is increasing in our country. Late last year, there were over nine thousand, almost twice as much as ten years ago.

This is evident from published Friday CBS figures. This means that last year in every thousand young people (under 18 years) in our country, there were three under guardianship.

Children come under custody if the parents can not cope with the care or education, or child neglect or abuse. The child is then placed from home.

UNDER THE CONTROL

A child can also "be placed under surveillance, this is a less severe measure. In contrast to the number of children under guardianship, the number of supervision orders declining in recent years. On December 31, 2015 were more than 21 thousand young people under 18 years of supervised. In 2009 it was about 33 thousand young people.

When supervision order restricting parental authority. The child can remain at home, which keeps a family guardian supervision. The child can be placed in a foster home or institution.

The heavier child protection measure custody, although is less common than under supervision, but the numbers have slowly come closer together.

 

DIFFERENCE IN REGION

The percentage of young people who receive child protection varies by region. It is highest in Limburg, the region Rotterdam and the northern Netherlands. There are more than ten in every thousand young people under supervision or guardianship.
