Ombudsman kritisch over aanhouden Feyenoordfans

The police, the public prosecutor and Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb of Rotterdam have made mistakes at the arrest of 326 supporters of Feyenoord in February.

That conclusion attract National Ombudsman Reinier van Zutphen and the Ombudsman of the City of Rotterdam Wednesday after investigating the events.

The ombudsmen say they are "very critical" on the actions of the parties involved. So Aboutaleb had before should better articulate the demonstration demonstrators were not allowed to reach the Maas Building. By not doing so could supporters "are not good considering whether or not to run with the march," they write.

When the fans still came to the Maasgebouw during the demonstration against Feyenoord administration, the police decided to close in the first group of protesters. Then shortly afterwards disturbances broke out, the police decided to keep the entire group of 326 fans and handing it over to the police.

"Insufficient legal basis'
On that arrests are enclosed supporters with ID card put in the picture and searched, but according to the Ombudsmen was before "sufficient legal basis". They also have their doubts about the fact that the group was arrested for gathering, since there was a demonstration.

After arresting the OM furthermore too long waited to hear from the fans, according to the ombudsmen. Therefore they sat too long in uncertainty. Moreover, there was no legal aid available.
